Noise Pollution free essay sample

Noise Pollution Construction sites, highway traffic, emergency sirens, and barking animals are not just an inconvenience to the ear, but what researchers call noise pollution. Disturbing sounds such as these can interrupt sleep, a family dinner, or any other normal activity, and as a result reduces the quality of one’s life. Although it is looked over by many; noise pollution can have serious negative effects on the environment and the human body. The environment is effected greatly by loud sounds from humankind. According to Green Living Tips, â€Å"in nature, noise causes many adverse effects on animals† (greenlivingtips. om). Examples of this include, birds that need to hear in order to catch their prey or find a mate, it also disturbs feeding and eating patterns in some animals, causes less milk produced by a cow, and has been proven to have a negative effect on the growth of some plants. These examples show that mankind is disrupting the flow of nature. The technology, and the motion for wealth and power have caused animals and other living things to live very closely to humans. This has caused many major problems recently resulting in the death of animals and people also. People have had bears in their trash, deer running across the streets, and other animals bombarding their homes. Due to expansion, much of these animals habitats have been reduced immensely, and they are forced to move to other places. According to the National Geographic, â€Å" swaths the size of Panama are lost each and every year. The world’s rain forests could completely vanish in a hundred  years at the current rate of deforestation† (environment. nationalgeographic. com). Animals are slowly losing their homes because of human action. The loud noise of the chainsaws alone would scare them out. Noise pollution has many effects on the human body as well. It can cause temporary or permanent deafness, decrease in efficiency, lack of sleep, an increase in stress, and high blood pressure. The United States Environmental Protection Agency says, â€Å"Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is the most common and often discussed health effect, but research has shown that exposure to constant or high levels of noise can cause countless adverse health affects† (epa. gov). Not only will the human race not stop the noise to protect the environment, but it is also effecting our own bodies. Noise is a very powerful thing, and is often taken for granted by many people. Even though noise pollution is not something many people know about, it is up to the people to spread the word. One thing that can be done in order to reduce the noise would be to simply get away from it. However, many of us do not have that luxury, so you can do several other things such as: wear protective ear equipment like ear plugs or ear muffs, set aside a period of time everyday for silence, or just simply try to limit the amount of noise you make throughout the day. If there is less dependence on various technologies and expansion, then the noise level may reduce as a result. Crucible Act 2 essays

Crucible Act 2 essays In The Crucible certain characters are either accepted or condemned because of their actions pertaining to the hysteria of witchcraft during the turbulent times of Salem. When the trials first started, hysteria began growing into serious crimes that would have the person accused both losing all of their belongings and confessing to a crime that they had not committed or to be hanged and to keep their pride. The trials make the hysteria worse in the town and give way to the accusations of even more and more people for even less probable reasons. People in Salem were affected differently from these trials and were given different responsibilities that they must handle to keep the town safe, such characters are Abigail and John Proctor. During the second act of The Crucible, Abigail began to blow many things out of proportion. As seen in the first act she blamed Tituba in hopes of getting away with her crime unscathed, but things soon grew out of proportion and she was given the chance to accuse more and more people for her own benefit. Abigail then started to attack peoples reputation and because of her accusations, she was made stronger, she especially wanted to be a better person in the eyes of Salem than Goody Proctor and so she staged a deceiving act that made it seem that she was attacked by the witch-loving Goody Anne Proctor and her spirit conjuring powers. Abigail was conniving against the entire town to make them believe that she was a saint or in her own words, Gods finger (Miller Pg. 62) Because of her responsibility to the town to be able to see who was working with the devil, she gained respect and a huge amount of power in Salem and was therefore considered important because of her ability to assur e everyone of the presence of witchcraft in Salem. Proctor though, was the exact opposite of Abigail and her response to witchcraft. Proctor saw that the entire idea of ...

Dissertation Checklist What to Do When Your Work Is (Nearly) Due

Dissertation Checklist What to Do When Your Work Is (Nearly) Due Dissertation Checklist: What to Do When Your Work Is (Nearly) Due Big dissertation deadline approaching? Hopefully, you have a draft you’re happy with and it’s time to get your dissertation ready for submission. But what do you need to do in these last days? Check out our dissertation checklist for three key steps in preparing your final piece of work. 1. Check Your Style Guide When you’ve finished redrafting, the first thing to do is reread your style guide. This should contain everything you need to know about how to present your work, including: What to include on a title or cover page. Whether to include a dedication or acknowledgements. The length and style of the abstract. How to format the table of contents. Whether to include a list of abbreviations. How to format the document (including page margins, tables, figures, illustrations, footnotes, endnotes, and the text of your dissertation itself). The referencing style you should use. The maximum word count and which sections count towards it. You’ll then need to double check that your dissertation follows these rules as closely as possible. 2. Proofread Carefully After making any final changes, make sure to proofread your dissertation one last time. Your focus here will be looking for typos and other minor errors to ensure that it is 100% error free. You may want to ask someone else to check your writing for you at this point (we’re always available). But if you do need to proofread your own work, try using the following tips: Read slowly and carefully, taking regular breaks as required. Print your dissertation out and check it on paper. Start at the end and work backwards through each chapter. Read problematic passages out loud. Look for different types of error individually (i.e., start out checking the punctuation, then the grammar, then the spelling, etc.). These tips should help you keep your concentration while proofreading. 3. Preparing to Submit Finally, when you have an error-free manuscript you can be proud of, you need to check your college’s guidelines for submitting a dissertation. This will usually include preparing: One print copy of your dissertation, professionally bound. One digital copy of your dissertation, typically in PDF form. Make sure to leave enough time before the deadline to get these ready. Your college should be able to recommend a local binding business for the print copy (or offer binding on campus). And you can export a document as a PDF file via Microsoft Word itself. Summary: Dissertation Checklist If you have a dissertation deadline coming up, make sure to tick off the steps on our dissertation checklist. These include: Reread your style guide to make sure that your dissertation follows it. Check your writing for typos (or have a professional do it for you). Read your college’s guidelines on preparing your dissertation for submission (this will usually involve creating one printed and bound version and one electronic version). And once you’ve submitted, we suggest taking a few days off to relax before preparing for your oral defense. Well done on getting this far, and let us know if we can help you over the finishing line.

Belbin Team Role Theory Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Belbin Team Role Theory - Assignment Example Coordination and cooperation of team members are essential for the success of teamwork. In a team, all the members work in a supportive environment. Each member of the team is just like a link in a chain. The chain can be broken even if only one link of the chain became weak. Same way, the weak performance of even a single team member may destroy the entire goals of the team. In order to prevent that all the team members will take more care in helping each other and the weak links in teams need particular attention from others. A team leader should coordinate the team functions and he should be able to identify the weak links in the team and should take remedial actions to strengthen that link. In a team, different people may have different roles. Specialists, shapers, team workers, completers/finishers, implementers, resource investigators, coordinators, evaluators, planters etc are most common in all the teams (Belbin team role theory). Consider the construction of a building. Engineers, architects, masons etc are the specialists in this construction team. Shapers, in this case, are the construction managers who streamline the construction work in the right track.

Management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Management - Research Paper Example It is one of the supporting structures that constitute the strength of the company. Another important aspect of strength for Lean-Body Diet relates to the economic factors. The economic environment for the production and sale of eatables and drinks for the diet conscious population is determined by the market trends, factors of competition, and the purchasing power of the market. Another important element relates to the nature of relationship between demand and supply. Regarding the factor of market trends, Lean-Body Diet will benefit from the current trends that have shown a preference for foods that promote good health. In fact the marketing strategies employed by the company will endear it to large segments of the population precisely because the company has managed to balance between taste and quality of the products. Lean-Body Diet will also benefit significantly from the imbalance between demand and supply for healthy foods and drinks. A study on the target market would reveal that few companies are engaged in the business of producing healthy food stuffs. One of the strategies that have been employed by the company is that it seeks to satisfy the needs of a broad category of the clientele. For instance, the company produces both low-fat and zero-fat kind of eatables. Diversification of the range of products will have significant economic benefits for the company as it seeks to stay ahead of the competition on the market. Usually the aspect of diversification is strategically adopted by businesses for expanding their market reach (Pearce & Robinson, 2005). Another advantage could be assessed from the perspective that the company deals with food products, which are basic necessities. In harsh economic times, Lean-Body Diet will still thrive in terms of both sales and profits as the populations in the target markets reduce switch from non-essential items and luxurious expenses to focus more on essential foodstuffs that are both healthy and affordable. The p ricing adopted by the company is meant to attract the clientele across the spectrum of socio-economic status. On this score, it might be added that the company has employed strategies that will enhance its market performance and growth of its brand. Weaknesses One of the weaknesses of the company is that it must invest in expensive storage facilities in order to shield it from losses that could occur due to spoilt foods. Food items are generally perishable and must require sophisticated equipment for proper storage. The maintenance of such expensive may prove costly in such a manner that eats into the profits of the company. This means that the company must engage in processes that will help in building a robust system that will check against the possibility of unforeseen losses that could stem from a slump in the market. It must be considered that the line of business of food items is full of damage related risks, which often discourages the entry of new players. A second weakness that is worthy of note relates to the competition from the established multinationals that deal in the same line of business. Generally, the aspect of competition will involve breaking into the market currently held by the multinationals. The international business organizations have sufficient resources to engage in aggressive marketing campaigns

Theseus and the Minotaur by Antoine-Louis Barye Essay Example for Free

Theseus and the Minotaur by Antoine-Louis Barye Essay The idea of Theseus fighting the Minotaur was a popular neo-classical subject among sculptors. Although, Antoine-Louis Barye (1796-1875) finished his sculpture about 1850 that is in the late part of what is meant by neo-classicism, Baryes modelling of the surfaces has a vibrancy and movement characteristic of the French romantic sculpture. Barye is well-known for his animal production and Theseus and the Minotaur is only one of a series produced by Barye from the early 1830s onwards. The sculpture reproduces King Aigeus and the god Poseidons son, Theseus, they both visited princess Aithra the very same night, that is Theseus had two fathers holding his knife over Minotaur, a monster having the head of a bull and the rest of the body human, devouring human flesh. However, according to tradition Theseus killed Minotaur by means of King Minos daughter Ariadne. Add to this that Minotaurs mother was King Minos wife his father a bull. CONFUSED!!! However, tradition says that Minotaur was locked up in a maze in Knossos on Crete. He was nourished by a compulsory tribute of young men and women from Athens. Therefore Theseus and Ariadne decided to kill him. Now, why did I choose to write about Theseus and the Minotaur? Well, first of all Victoria and Albert Museum is big very big! I therefore had to decide by which department I wanted to improve my knowledge. In many ways the 19th century was a time of unrest and upheaval: a neo-Platonic philosophy of life arose, an interest for classical antiquity penetrated, citizens acquired a considerable place in society etc. Consequently I darted into the department containing subjects from America and Europe in the period 1800-1890. Though I had now reduced my options I still didnt know exactly what to go more thoroughly into. Nevertheless, I know a little of Greek mythology a very little! so I determined to deepen with Theseus and the Minotaur. Greek mythology was a very common subject for scultors and artists in general in the Romantic Movement. In fact reproducing old classical  subjects is very significiant to Romanticism. Where the 18th century attached importance to common sense, the 19th century that is the first part of the century set great store by feeling. We see this in the sculpture: The feelings for tradition, old things etc. is obvious. On the other hand it isnt very reasonable to make sculptures of antiquated things.
